week 11
The hardest part about the research is finding time to obtain what I need. Being an architecture student finding time to visit the site is hard to do. The easiest part of it is when I do have time I have no troubles finding what I need. Keeping a blog helps me keep track of what I have done already. That way I won’t waist the time that I have on repeating things. If I plan on doing my final paper chronologically this I will be able to use the blog to determine what I did and when.

Week 10 Reflection
Sigep- Sigma Phe Epsilon, also when the brothers need to share something secret about the frat
Boner Story- Funny stories brothers tell about themselves or other brothers
Rush- The process of joining
Big bro- Older brothers that are assigned to a new member to help them out.
A lot of my words are pretty common and are heard outside of the frat. The only one that may have given people trouble is Boner Story. They probably couldn't get their heads out of the gutter, its not as bad as you think.

week 9
By doing this research I can help outsiders understand some of the benefits of joining a frat. I can provide a way of helping outsiders decide if joining a frat would be a good thing for them to do. I can help change the stereotype that frats are only for drinking, and show what frats are really meant for. This could help the community grow; it helps other people understand what frats are about. It also changes my own views of frats.
week 5
I have gathered sources that help explain all aspects of my site. Most of the information I have found goes exactly with what I have been observing. Frats are trying to talk up all the benefits of joining a frat. When, outsiders are trying to bring out the negatives like drinking and hazing. I want to find more information about the history of frats and how they got started.
week 4
Academic sources are sources found in libraries web that are accredited. Instructors like you to use these sources because they know that the information used from them is reliable. An example of a place where you could use non-academic sources is when you are trying to get someone’s opinion. Non-academic source to me means that it is not based on someone’s opinion but on facts.
week 3
If I were to stop someone walking down the street and ask what they thought about frats I could several answers. If I asked someone who was a member of the frat they would tell me stuff about the brotherhood, and all the advantages of being in a frat. If I asked someone who was not in a frat I would probably get a response about drinking involved in frats. Male college students are a part of this subculture.

week 8
Eight weeks into the research and observation of my community the common theme that seems to be happening is that members of the community think highly of their program and what they represent, and people outside the community a majority of the time think a frat is only a place to party and drink. In the interviews I conducted that’s how I have come up with these conclusions. Also my own personal opinion of frats before and after I have been introduced into the community has affected my research. My place in the culture is still the same. A frat takes up a lot of time, and takes a lot of dedication. As an architecture student I barely have time as it is. So I am still an outsider. Although things have changed since the start of this project, people in the community are starting to know who I am. I feel more comfortable in the community and they make me feel welcome.

week seven
I don’t have a plan as of now about how to finish my mini-ethnography. All I know is I don’t need any more research, as far as looking for stuff in books or on the internet. I think I have plenty to go off of. However, I do need to attend another part of the culture, other than just the party side. Also I need to conduct a few more interviews. I think that is how I am going to get the majority of my really good information.
week six
I can make a few conclusions about the Frat community. Students not in a frat, and parents think that the only thing frats are for are to drink and haze. Although, frats can throw pretty big parties, there a lot of good things about them. Just in observation of walking from class to class with one of my friends who is in the frat, I noticed that he knew about 10 times more people then I did. I would ask him how he knew that person, and the response was usually frat. So as a freshman it’s a great way to meet a lot of new people. Also, they are part of many school organizations, and demand a high gpa from all the members. I think the stereotype for frats is the same for all campuses. How each frat handles themselves varies but really everything is the same.

Version 2
The Greek life on campus is stereotyped as an organizing that concentrates on partying. I am starting to find out that is not true. The brothers are in many school activities and organizations. Yes, frats party, and yes, drinking is involved. But, you can drink anywhere on campus as long as you don’t get caught. So it’s not fair to say frats are the main drinking and partying parts of campus.

Positioning Yourself
I have been to several Hispanic countries some for leisure and others for missions work. I enjoyed everything about the time spent there and learned a lot about the people there.
Groundwork Activity
The biggest opstical with research the Mayan culture is there is a limited amount of people I could ask about it. Since time machines don't exist I wouldn't be able to experience the culture first hand. Also if I didnt't speak the language I would be limited on what I found out.

Golf Ritual
My ritual before I play consist of the same things but i have a few different things and preferences on how I go about doing it. I usually avoid people as much as possible so I am able to focus. Which means I may sometime have to leave the practice green and practice aiming at a tree instead. I also like to drink a lot of water before hand, especially on the hotter days.
There are many different names for things in the sport of golf. Like "slice" when a right handed player hits a ball the curves to the right, left handed to the left. Or "hook" for the opposite. Probably the most widely known term to everyone, not just the golfing community, is the word used for, " look out there is a ball heading your way." FOUR! In most cases they aren't exactly insider phrases, however in the world of golf there is an unusual amount of swearing and foul language. What makes it different from other cultures using harsh language for golfers its usually directed at the ball. Oddly enough Happy Gilmore is an example of how a lot of golfers really act.
The stereotype of golfers is they are old fat guys in goofy pants and shirts trying to avoid their wives. Well although there are some of those guys out there, the majority of the players now day are mixed of all ages, sizes and race.
The culture of a golfer is more crazy and sometimes more stressful then outsiders may think. However its a culture that anyone can get into, and you can take it a seriously as you want to. It is a fun and relaxing sport.
